Privacy Policy
How we collect, use, and protect your information at Neighbor Nest Hub.
This Privacy Policy describes how Neighbor Nest Hub (“we”, “us”, or “the publication”) collects, uses, shares, and protects information from visitors to neighbornesthub.com. It also explains the choices you have about your data and how to reach us with privacy questions.
Who we are
Neighbor Nest Hub is an independent online publication about neighborhood and community living. The website is reachable at neighbornesthub.com and the editorial team can be contacted through the Contact page or by writing to contact@neighbornesthub.com.
What information we collect
When you visit our website, our server logs may automatically record standard information such as your IP address, browser type and version, the pages you view, the time of your visit, the referring page, and similar diagnostic data. This information is used to understand site performance, prevent abuse, and improve the reading experience. We do not link this technical data to your name or to other personal identifiers unless required by law.
We also collect information you choose to provide directly to us, including:
- Your email address when you subscribe to our newsletter.
- Your name, email address, message, and selected topic when you submit a message through our Contact page.
- Any details you voluntarily include in correspondence with the editorial team.
Cookies and similar technologies
A cookie is a small text file stored on your device by your browser when you visit a website. We use a small number of cookies for three purposes:
- Essential cookies that remember reader preferences (for example, whether you have dismissed a banner) and that keep basic site functionality working.
- Analytics cookies that help us understand aggregate site usage, such as which articles are popular and how readers arrive at the site. These are described further in the Analytics section below.
- Advertising cookies set by our advertising partners, as described in the Advertising and third-party cookies section below.
You can disable or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time. Disabling all cookies will not prevent you from reading the site, but some preferences may not be remembered between visits.
Advertising and third-party cookies
This website may display advertising provided by third-party partners, most notably Google AdSense (a Google service that delivers ads across many sites), in order to support the cost of producing free editorial content. Google may also use its DoubleClick cookie (now branded as Google Ad Manager) as part of that delivery. These partners and their network of advertisers may use cookies, web beacons, device identifiers, and similar technologies to:
- Serve advertisements based on your previous visits to this website or to other websites.
- Measure how advertisements perform and report aggregated statistics to advertisers.
- Limit the number of times you see the same advertisement.
- Recognise you as the same visitor across sites and devices for ad-personalisation purposes.
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
Advertising Personalization Controls
You have meaningful control over how personalised advertising appears to you. The following official tools let you manage, limit, or fully opt out of personalised ads:
- Google Ads Settings: manage how Google personalises ads across its services and partner sites: https://adssettings.google.com
- Google My Ad Center: review the topics and brands that influence the ads you see, block specific advertisers, and adjust personalisation: https://myadcenter.google.com
You can also opt out of personalised advertising from many other ad networks through the following industry tools:
- Network Advertising Initiative opt-out: https://optout.networkadvertising.org
- Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out: https://optout.aboutads.info
- Your Online Choices (European Union): https://www.youronlinechoices.com
Turning off personalised advertising does not mean you will stop seeing advertisements. It means the advertisements you see will be less tailored to your specific interests. You can also limit ad tracking at the operating-system level on iOS, Android, and most desktop platforms through device privacy settings.
Analytics
We may use privacy-respecting analytics tools to understand how the site is used in aggregate. These tools record information such as page views, approximate location (country and city level), device type, browser, and referring page. Where these tools use cookies, those cookies are described in the Cookies section above. We do not use analytics data to build individual user profiles.
Newsletter sign-ups
If you subscribe to our Sunday newsletter, we collect your email address and the date you subscribed. We use this only to send the newsletter and very occasional editorial messages. We do not sell or share your email address with third parties for their marketing purposes. You can unsubscribe from any newsletter with one click, at any time, using the link in the footer of every email.
European (GDPR) and California (CCPA) rights
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and equivalent UK and Swiss laws give you specific rights over your personal data: the right to be informed about what we collect and why (this page), the right to access data we hold about you, the right to have inaccurate data corrected or deleted, the right to restrict or object to certain processing, and the right to lodge a complaint with your national data-protection authority. To exercise any of these rights, contact us through the Contact page or by writing to contact@neighbornesthub.com. We aim to respond to verified requests within thirty days.
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and its amendments give you the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to request deletion of your personal information, and the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for targeted advertising. Neighbor Nest Hub does not sell personal information for money. Where we display personalized advertising through third-party partners, that partner is described in the sections above, and you can opt out of personalized advertising using the links in the Advertising Personalization Controls section of this policy or by adjusting your choice through the Cookie Settings link in the site footer.
Contact form and reader correspondence
If you submit a message through our Contact page or send us a question, correction, or reader scenario by email, we store your name, email address, the topic you selected, and the contents of your message in our editorial inbox. We treat the contents as confidential and we do not publish them publicly without your permission. When a reader scenario inspires an article, we anonymise identifying details before publication.
Third-party services we rely on
Our website is served through standard third-party hosting and content-delivery services, may use email-delivery services to send the newsletter, and may use analytics services as described above. These providers process technical request data on our behalf under their own published privacy commitments. Where any of these providers process personal data of European visitors, we rely on the safeguards described in their respective policies, including Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable.
International data transfers
Because the internet operates globally, information that is collected through this website may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in countries other than the country where you live. When this happens, we rely on the protections offered by our service providers and on the lawful transfer mechanisms recognised in your jurisdiction.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Request access to the personal information we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Request deletion of your personal information.
- Object to or restrict certain processing activities.
- Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
To exercise any of these rights, send a request through our contact form. We will respond within thirty days, and sooner where required by law.
California privacy rights (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the CPRA, gives you specific rights over your personal information:
- Right to know. You may request the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, the sources it came from, why we collected it, and the categories of third parties we shared it with.
- Right to delete. You may request deletion of personal information we collected from you, subject to legal exceptions.
- Right to correct. You may request correction of inaccurate personal information.
- Right to opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell your personal information for money. However, the use of third-party advertising cookies for personalized advertising may be considered “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising under California law. You can opt out using the Cookie Settings link in the site footer, or through the advertising controls described above.
- Right to limit use of sensitive personal information. We do not collect or use sensitive personal information as that term is defined by the CPRA.
- Right to non-discrimination. We will not deny you service, charge you a different price, or provide a different level of quality because you exercised any of these rights.
To exercise any California right, send a request through our contact form and select the “Privacy & legal” topic. We will verify your request by replying to the address you provide and will respond within forty-five days, as required by California law. You may designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf.
Children’s privacy
This website is intended for adult readers. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of thirteen. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at contact form and we will delete it.
Data retention
We retain personal information only for as long as it is needed for the purposes described in this policy or as required by law. Server logs are rotated regularly. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Contact-form submissions are kept in the editorial inbox so we can refer back to ongoing conversations, and are reviewed periodically for deletion.
Changes to this policy
If we update this Privacy Policy, the new version is posted on this page with the new Last updated date at the top. Significant changes are also noted on our home page for at least two weeks so returning readers can notice the update.
Contact
For any privacy question, request, or complaint, send a request through our contact form or use our Contact page. We aim to respond within five working days.
